Kilome region celebrates Grace Kamola's wedding

Praise God that Grace Kamola's church wedding ceremony was finally held this past Saturday, Sept. 21st! (pictures above and below) The women in her Kwambeu women's group in the Kilome cluster provided her wedding dress and rejoiced in the celebration!

Grace had an obstetric fistula surgical repair in March and has, since then, been free to attend church and mix socially without any stigma, so she and her husband were finally able to have a church wedding after 34 years!

Susan Musembe, the Kilome Regional Program Manager, sent photos and said, “Thank God for His faithfulness. Grace has suffered for many years but a day like this was in His big plans to bring it to accomplishment!

Pray for God to Bless Women's efforts to meet Financial Targets by Oct. 4th

Agnes, our Kenya Program Director says, “We need more prayers toward our bank opening, to be held on October 4th, for women to reach their financial targets."

Every woman has been working very hard through various income generating activities to earn enough Kenya Shillings to contribute her financial "target" into the pool with the other women in her group so they can raise as much money as possible toward purchasing water tanks.

This annual "bank opening" (when they pool their money together-- which they used to do literally by opening tin banks) will determine the number of tanks they can purchase. Will they reach the goal they've been working so hard all year to attain?

For a variety of reasons, some of the women are experiencing difficulty attaining their individual targets, possibly due to a downturn in the market to sell their handmade goods, or waterborne illness in their family which required medical care, a lack of rain, or a poor harvest, etc.

The women have set a goal to earn enough for 158 water tanks and 8 solar panels this year! Please pray for God's blessing on all their efforts, that they will be able to reach their individual targets and meet this group goal! Pray also for their growing trust in the Lord and His faithfulness in the process.

Pray for PFP-Kenya's Non-Profit Registration Process

The process for Path From Poverty to become registered as a non-profit organization in Kenya has involved interviews by bank officers and government officials during the month of August and it has been quite a challenge for Agnes, our Kenya Program Director.

The Kenyan Regional Program Managers need to sign their by-laws and surrender them to the Government in the next few days.

Please pray that this registration will be approved by the Kenyan government as soon as possible.

Pray for Lydia's House To Be Completed!

Update: Continue to pray also for Lydia’s house construction. Susan writes, “Thank God for Lydia’s house. We got volunteers who offered to take a loan for the iron sheets and also the timber. The challenge we have is that the bricks the mason estimated were not enough, we’re supposed to purchase more for the truss. We have trust that this will be available soon.”

As you may remember the Kwambeu Women's Group (of which Lydia is a member), their AIC church, and the more established PFP women's groups from the Mbooni, Kisau, and Tulimani regions, are helping fund the building of a 2-room house for Lydia and her children. This house will have a metal roof to catch rainwater into Lydia's new tank, recently delivered during the 2019 work team visit, and a locking door for Lydia and her family's protection.

Susan Musembi, Lydia's Regional Program Manager, said, “We also thank God for helping us through such an activity, we are trusting to do the final one: windows, door, and lock etc."

Please continue to pray that this final stage of putting in a window, door, and lock would be completed as soon as possible. And continue to pray for God's protection from harm for Lydia and her family.

Water and Food Shortage in New PFP Regions

Susan Musembi, Kilome RPM, wrote: “Our major common challenge is lack of food. All food is bought from the shops and few families could afford cash to purchase food. The other one is lack of water. Most families are relying on water from dams and most of them have dried up… PFP-Kenya coordinator is assisting the groups to educate them on boiling water from dams before they drink. Every meeting in groups we take a lesson to teach them the danger of using dirty water.”

Regina Mbaluku, the Malili RPM reported: “The challenges we are facing is lack of water, food, and money, but God is so good, for we are strong and healthy…. Please pray for us always.”

She also said, "we will get rain at the end of October if all goes well.”

"Many members don’t have water tanks. We pray by God’s help every woman by next year to have a tank.”

The women in these newest PFP regions, Malili, Kibwezi, and Kilome, are working very hard to generate income to buy water tanks. And PFP is supporting their efforts through the provision of monthly gift tanks. Pray that God will richly bless the women's efforts!

God's Provision for the Indonesia Program until June 2020

Praise God for His faithfulness! The Japanese Presbyterian Church has stepped forward with financial support for the PFP-Indonesia Program for one year (until June of 2020)!

Please continue to pray that God will raise up an organization/donor who would feel called to support the Program from July 2020 onward.

After 11 years of partnership with the women of North Sumatra, June 30, 2019 marked the closure of the Indonesia Program. PFP made the strategic decision to focus efforts on our work in Kenya, where there were opportunities for program growth and replication.

Thank God for Program Director Hotmaida Siahaan’s trust in the Lord and her faithful, persevering, committed attitude to continue to come alongside the women in poverty there. Please pray for Hotmaida, and for these women as they continue to courageously walk the path out of poverty.
