Path From Poverty has a long history of supporting young women in education. The cycle of change continues as women raise daughters and sons who now have the knowledge and experience of overcoming poverty. Groups identify girls that need extra support because of difficult circumstances and initially fund those scholars themselves. This is a beautiful example of how women’s groups choose to see beyond their own families’ needs. Communities are affected as women share opportunity and empowerment with others.

Currently, Path From Poverty partners with women's groups to sponsor the education of two orphaned girls, Stella and Mirriam. You can contribute to a girl's scholarship fund by putting her name in the memo field of your donation.

Stella

This year, PFP has added another educational scholarship for a young woman. Stella, age 16, had already lost her father when she suddenly lost her mother to Covid-19 late last year. Her mother was a member of Mbonokye Women’s Group in Mbooni, and we are partnering with them with an educational scholarship to help Stella stay in school.

If you would like to contribute to Path From Poverty's educational fund, please talk to Kim. We support the secondary education of two girls and our RPMs support two.

Faith

Faith is a Path From Poverty scholarship student referred to us by the Mbooni Regional Program Manager. She is an orphan whose parents passed away when she was young. Together with her two younger brothers and sisters, the family is currently being raised by their grandmother.

Faith was supported through primary school, by a local church. She excelled in her studies and received high grades when sitting for the 2017 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education. Due to a lack of familial funds, Faith was unable to continue secondary school studies – thankfully, she was brought to our attention as a hard worker who will excel when given support and she has just finished her schooling. She recently wrote to us: “I am taking this opportunity to thank you for supporting me. I promise that I will not fail you. I will do my best to achieve my goal. May the Lord bless you.”

Hellen & Teresiah

Teresiah is a Path From Poverty scholarship student in her final year (Form 4) at Kiatineni Secondary School. Although Teresiah has brothers and sisters, she is an orphan with no home, so Path From Poverty also assists with Kiatineni boarding fees, meals, and clothing.

Teresiah’s situation was identified by the local Path From Poverty Women’s Group, Baraka, in the Tulimani region and she was referred to us for assistance starting at Form 1. We recently visited with Teresiah at her school where we were told she is a “dedicated student with an open heart”. Teresiah aims to become a doctor, nurse or pharmacist – following in the footsteps of other scholarship students who continue to show young girls in their communities what can be achieved through hard work and dedication.
